Looking for a meaningful way to engage her daughter Desiree who was “listless and didn’t know what to do” at home, Lynn Koo enrolled her in Golden Window of Learning’s online English language classes last September.
Initially, Lynn was worried that Desiree’s attention span would be short as she was only 19 months old then. She was also unable to verbalise herself that well.
To her surprise, Desiree enjoyed the songs, and learnt counting and new words through the online sessions. The classes also prepared her for preschool, which she started in February this year.
“It helped to assure her that learning in a different setting can be fun,” Lynn said.
Offered for children aged one to two years old, the Golden Window of Learning programme is developed by Little Skool-House’s (LSH) in-house curriculum specialists and taught by teachers who specialise in drama. Parents get weekly home kits with materials for activities, based on themes such as transportation, animals and the body. They also have online access to video demonstrations on learning activities conducted by the teachers.
Coreen Soh, LSH’s General Manager, said the idea was to provide babies and toddlers who do not attend preschool the experience of group learning, and help parents find fun and meaningful ways of engaging their little ones at home.
Early exposure to varied experiences is important not because children should go to school earlier, she said, but because such interactions can help parents know more about their children, like their interests and learning styles.
