My First Skool’s (MFS) Intergenerational (IG) Programme, designed to foster connections across generations, has engaged an average of 10,000 to 12,000 children annually over the past decade. This initiative brings children together with about 2,000 seniors each year through various activities, such as storytelling, arts and crafts as well as workout sessions.
As part of the programme, which is embedded in the preschool curriculum, children at MFS preschools have at least 10 to 12 opportunities each year to connect with seniors. These interactions help children learn from the seniors while nurturing their patience and empathy.
In the news feature, children at My First Skool at Braddell Heights and the seniors at NTUC Health’s senior day care centre interacted through a game of Bingo.
Thian Ai Ling, MFS’s General Manager, shared that MFS continuously refreshes its IG activities and collaborates with other organisations to enrich such interactions.
MFS also plans to publish a book next year to document its decade-long IG journey and inspire further intergenerational connections in Singapore.
