Abstract:

During the early years, the brain undergoes rapid development and undergoes a process called ‘synaptic density’. In order to support such growth, parents and educators should provide a safe and secure environment for children’s learning and discovery. This expert article suggests that this can be achieved by forming secure attachments with the children as it establishes the roots of stability and security. Children will then have the opportunity to explore, learn and grow at their own individual rate. Implications for educators working with the birth-to-three age group are discussed in the article as well.
